By associating Leo IV with imperial power, Constantine V extended the dynastic program established by his father. This solidus presents the reigning emperor and heir together, answered on the reverse by Leo III, the dynasty’s founder. The design makes time visible: foundation, present government and future succession are compressed into two small fields. Its clipped edge belongs to later handling, but the official imagery remains an unusually concise statement of hereditary monarchy. No narrative scene is needed; the sequence of named and crowned faces is itself the political message.
